The KID Trigger, shoot with it or against it...

The KID trigger is the best 10/22 trigger on the market. Whether you shoot Smallbore Silhouette, the Sportsmans Team Challenge or just hate Crows and Groundhogs this is the trigger you have been looking for. What makes it the best you ask? Tony Kidd's patented two stage design. The KID trigger offers the incredibly clean and consistent let off expected in a target trigger while maintaining the total reliability and safety required of a field trigger. The pull weight can be infinitely distributed between the two stages offering a pull as light as 6 ounces (3 ounces on the first stage and 6 ounces on the second stage) or as heavy as 2.5 pounds. We will gladly distribute the trigger weight to your individual needs.

The KID trigger guard is CNC machined from 6061 T6 billet aluminum and each assembly is serial numbered and branded with the KID logo. The hammer, sear, transfer bar and other internal tool steel parts are CNC machined and cut by a wire EDM. All springs are manufactured by a 10/22 aficionado and KID customer Murphy & Read Springs. We assemble each trigger in the KID shop employing the strictest quality control knowing our reputation rides on every trigger.

Talk about INNOVATIVE! Have you noticed the new interchangeable magazine release levers for the KID Trigger. You can now purchase one of three new styles or all three. The Sportsman or the flat lever is the best lever for all you hunters. The Extended (medium) is a great universal magazine lever. And then the Speed (long) lever that wraps around the bottom of the trigger guard is for all you target shooters who are racing the clock.

We offer black and silver anodized, (silver being a clear anodizing process) trigger bodies both supplied with our signature red trigger (or as a customer from San Antonio, Texas referred to it "the salsa trigger"). Both black and silver trigger bodies have a matte glare free finish.

We have offered a straight trigger shoe option in our trigger housing for years but the concept it is still new to most customers. As seen in the pictures on the left, the straight trigger replaced the standard curved trigger nicely and feels particularly good with a pistol grip or thumbhole style stock. We recommend that if you are using a sporter style stock that you stick with the standard curved trigger. Our curved and straight trigger shoes are available in both red and black powder coating.

We offer two hammer spring options, standard and magnum. The magnum spring can be purchased for an extra $12.00 during check out and should be used with the .22 magnum and 17HMR.

What the heck is a two stage trigger? The KID two stage trigger offers a unique geometry which allows a very clean, light and repeatable break. This is accomplished by distributing the trigger pull weight into two distinct segments. The first segment or stage is an initial take up which leads to the second stage. As you pull the trigger rearward taking up the first stage weight you will feel a stop. This is the second stage. At this point the hammer and sear are engaged by .001" and any further rearward movement of the trigger will release the hammer firing the shot. The advantage to this system, which is used on all European competition autoloaders, is the ability to not only have very consistent trigger breaks but to also allow light and reliable trigger breaks. In an autoloading rifle this can only be accomplished with a two stage trigger.

The KID two stage trigger is also much safer than a single stage trigger. When cocked the KID trigger has approximately .040" hammer and sear engagement. Almost 10 times that of the factory trigger. Only KID offers a 10/22 trigger assembly which incorporates precise let off, complete reliability and total safety.

Once upon a time...

In the spring of '96 USAMU International and Olympic Rifle gunsmith Chuck Gartland and I were playing with the 10/22 rifle. Gene Clark and Simon Reynolds had just returned from England where they had tested a dozen Anschutz barreled actions at the Eley plant in hopes of finding the best lots of rimfire ammunition available for the AMU International Rifle Team. They found it! 1.5 million rounds of it! By the way USAMU now holds the Eley plant record for smallest group aggregate.

I have always wanted to visit England and was talking with Simon, who at the time was an English citizen, about his travels. We were looking over targets and I noticed that the groups from the Anschutz barreled actions were no smaller than Chucks tricked out 10/22. That $150 rifle shot great but that $10 trigger needed some serious help.

I knew I could improve on the Ruger single stage geometry and make a better hammer and sear. However no matter what I did, although better than stock, it was still a Ruger. I came to the conclusion that you just cant put enough parts in a Ruger trigger to make it good. One thing led to another and before I knew it I was redesigning the assembly. Obviously it had to be two stage, light, repeatable, and reliable.

While working on the prototype trigger, rifle shooter extraordinaire, Troy Lawton, came to me and asked if I could help him with his 10/22 trigger. His trigger was about 1 1/2 lbs and worked in some guns but not this gun. I told him about the new trigger and he wanted to check it out. Originally the 10/22 was going to be a Smallbore Silhouette rifle used for windy conditions. Using the 10/22 would allow Troy to engage targets quickly when the wind settled. His primary rifle would be an Anschutz bolt gun.

After a week with the prototype, Troy called to tell me the 10/22 with the KID trigger was going to be his primary rifle. It was as accurate as his Anschutz and the trigger was as good as his Anschutz so why shoot the Anschutz? Three weeks later Troy won the Smallbore Silhouette Nationals. This had never been done with an autoloader much less a 10/22.

I got busy and developed a safety and bolt hold open. I applied for and finally received a patent for the KID trigger. I ventured into a couple of bad business deals over the next few years and began to think I would never see this great trigger come to market. I owe a great deal of thanks to my family and many good friends for supporting, believing in, and pushing me to make this thing happen. What a learning experience this has been. But WOW! it's here and I have met a lot great people because of it.
